Vintage Japanese Oil Painting - Thatched Farmhouse by a Stream
A rural landscape depicting a traditional thatched-roof farmhouse among trees beside a stream. The water occupies the left foreground, while a path follows the right bank. A mountain ridge extends across the background beneath a pale, overcast sky.
The painting uses visible brushwork to depict the water, trees and thatched roof. The palette includes moss and forest greens, earthy browns, blue tones in the water and mountains, and a small area of red in the foreground. The style is associated with Yōga, the Japanese tradition of Western-style painting.
The lower-right corner is signed “matumoto”. A vertical ink stamp on the reverse of the canvas is reported to read 「松本一郎」 (Matsumoto Ichirō). The signature and reverse stamp appear to correspond, although the artist’s identity and the suggested mid-20th-century date have not been independently authenticated.
