Vintage Japanese Oil Painting - Village Landscape with Pagoda
An oil painting depicting a traditional Japanese village beneath rolling hills. A multi-tiered pagoda rises above tiled-roof buildings, with green terraced fields extending across the foreground. The hills are painted in earthy brown and green tones beneath a pale sky.
The painting uses short, visible brushstrokes to depict the fields, buildings and surrounding landscape. Its approach is associated with Yōga, the Japanese tradition of Western-style painting.
The lower-right corner is signed “SHINJO”. The reverse bears a stamp reading “UCHU-DO” (宇宙堂) on the wooden stretcher. The artist’s full identity and the exact date of the painting have not been independently confirmed. The stretcher stamp identifies a supplier mark, rather than establishing the painting’s date or place of origin.
