Vintage Japanese Bamboo Flower Basket (Hanakago)

A Japanese bamboo flower basket, traditionally known as a hanakago, featuring an open geometric lattice weave combined with irregular, overlapping bamboo elements. The tall, braided handle rises above a shaped body with a narrowed neck and a broad, bound rim. Contrasting red, chestnut and dark brown tones highlight the variation in the bamboo and the basket’s intricate woven structure.

Condition & Antique Character

The basket has a rustic, handmade appearance, with variations in colour, texture and weave. The basket has been given a general clean, but please expect some historical imperfections, including some remnants of old soot.
