Bizen Ware Gourd-Shaped Flower Vase - Tokkuri-Gata Hanaire

Traditional Japanese Bizen ware tokkuri-gata hanaire, a small flower vase with a rounded, flask-shaped body that narrows towards the mouth. The gently asymmetrical form is suited to a single stem or simple branch arrangement.

Materials
Made from dense, iron-rich stoneware clay and fired at high temperature without an applied glaze. The body has deep plum, chestnut-brown and iron-red tones, with pronounced sangiri effects in slate-blue, silver-grey and pale areas across the lower section. Patches of natural goma ash have partially fused to the surface, creating variations in colour and texture. The flat, unglazed base bears a hand-incised maker's mark and retains a coarse, sandy texture.
