Bizen Ware Twisted Square Column Vase - Nejiri-Tsutsu

Traditional Japanese Bizen ware nejiri-tsutsu, a square column vase with a gently twisted form. The square profile rotates through the height of the piece, creating changing facets and a strong geometric silhouette. The mouth and base are both square-cut.

Age: Late 20th Century

Materials
Made from dense, iron-rich stoneware clay and fired at high temperature without an applied glaze. The body has dark charcoal, slate-grey and purplE-brown tones, with natural variations produced during wood firing. The lower section shows pronounced sangiri kiln effects, while areas of golden-yellow goma ash deposits appear across the upper facets. The unglazed base bears an incised maker's mark and is finished flat for stable placement.
