Antique Japanese Tokkuri Sake Bottle

A pre-war time traditional Japanese tokkuri (sake bottle) with a rounded, hand-thrown form and a cream-coloured crackle glaze. The shoulder is finished with a dark brown iron glaze that runs naturally down the body, with hand-painted Japanese characters and a circular 十 mark to either side.

Materials
Hand-thrown stoneware with a pale cream to light grey crackle glaze. The upper body has a dark brown iron-oxide glaze, with visible throwing marks beneath the surface. The bottle has a substantial rim and a simple circular foot, typical of traditional Japanese utility ceramics.

Condition & Antique Character
