An antique Japanese ceramic vase. The simple, rounded form and restrained surface reflect the unpretentious character of early Japanese functional ceramics, in pale green-grey. This particular piece could originally be a tokkuri, sake bottle, but its exact usage remains unconfirmed.
Materials Coarse, iron-rich Japanese stoneware with a naturally formed ash glaze, giving the surface its subtle green-grey colouring. Visible wheel marks, iron spotting, pinholes and firing irregularities remain across the body. The recessed foot is unglazed, exposing the coarse clay body.
