Antique Japanese Wooden Hook for Irori Hearth
A distinctive, rustic wooden component associated with the traditional Japanese irori hearth and its hanging equipment, believed to be dating from the early 20th century. The piece features a pronounced curved opening, a long, square-section wooden peg and a smooth black exterior finish. Its bold, utilitarian form and weathered surface give it a striking sculptural presence, reflecting traditional Japanese craftsmanship. Self Standing.
Materials
Constructed from wood, with a heavily weathered, darkened exterior and pronounced surface texture. The wood species and the cause of the darkened finish have not been confirmed. Further examination would be needed to establish whether the surface has been charred, stained or altered through prolonged use and exposure.

Condition and Antique Character
The piece displays substantial weathering, with a darkened surface and deeply textured, irregular edges that contribute to its distinctive rustic character and areas of surface level wear. Its worn appearance and unconventional form give it considerable visual interest. The condition of the projecting wooden peg, the integrity of the curved section and any areas of cracking, loss or previous repair should be assessed and documented before the listing is finalised.
