A double-sided antique Japanese Boro textile composed of multiple layers of historical, indigo, hand-patched fabrics, dating from the early 20th century. Because both faces feature their own unique, intricate arrangement of fabrics, this versatile piece is completely reversible and suitable for double-sided display. This exceptionally texturized and intricately mended piece features a magnificent, heavy-contrast patchwork composition. The front showcases a sprawling, dense mosaic dominated by beautiful fields of Kasuri (ikat) resist-dyed patterns, striped textiles, and solid indigos, while the alternate face reveals a fascinatingly raw arrangement of heavily weathered, grid-patterned farming cloths, earthy brown-toned checks, and subtle hits of historic plum and mustard accent patches.


Materials & Natural Dyes
100% Handwoven, homespun, and hand-stitched antique cotton and indigo fabrics. Through decades of careful handling, natural ageing, and repeated washings, the textile has evolved a magnificent, complex patina. The entire multi-layered structure is heavily reinforced by dense, highly visible rows of traditional white Sashiko hand-stitching, which bridges beautifully aged fabric windows and heavily texturized patches.

Condition & Antique Character
As an authentic antique artifact, this piece carries the beautiful imprints of its previous life. It possesses a pure wabi-sabi aesthetic, with honest signs of age, utility, and historic repair. Beautiful areas of natural fading, uneven colour saturation, organic edge fraying, thinning zones, small historical marks, and multi-layered fabric windows. These elements are not flaws, but rather the highly coveted characteristics that verify its absolute antiquity.

The garment has been rinsed through cold water, but it has not been given a deep wash since we acquired it from the previous owner.
