Shigaraki Ware Eared Flower Vase - Mimi-Tsuki Hanaire

Traditional Japanese Bizen ware mimi-tsuki hanaire, a flower vase with two small raised lugs or “ears” (mimi) applied to the shoulders. The form has a flared, trumpet-shaped mouth and a sturdy, columnar body with a raised lower ridge.

Materials
Made from dense, iron-rich stoneware clay and fired at high temperature without an applied glaze. The body has deep chocolate-brown and purple tones, with natural variations produced during wood firing. Olive-green ash deposits cover parts of the neck and shoulders, while small red-orange hidasuki fire markings are visible around the rim and lower body. The flat, unglazed base bears an incised maker's mark and retains subtle wheel-cut tool marks.
