An antique Japanese street vendor's wooden stool, dating to the Meiji or Taisho era. This rustic piece of regional folk furniture (mingei) features a distinctive trapezoidal form with an integrated circular handle cut-out for quick, one-handed transport through busy market crowds. Originally used by mobile stall holders, tradesmen, or street food vendors, its minimalist geometry embodies pure everyday utility.

Materials
Hand-assembled panels of native conifer wood, likely cedar (sugi) or pine (matsu), fastened together with historic iron nails. The unlined wood has been naturally seasoned by decades of market use, developing a deep charcoal-toned grain from handling, soot, and regional weathering.

Condition & Antique Character
As an antique object, this piece has lived a previous life and shows the gentle marks of time and utility. The exterior wood panels exhibit prominent shrinkage gaps, historic iron nail head oxidation, and fine insect boring holes that have long since stabilized. The seat corners and base rims display heavy softening, superficial scuffing, and localized paint loss along the high-friction edges, revealing the lighter natural grain underneath.
