A double-sided antique Japanese Boro textile composed of multiple layers of historical, hand-patched fabrics. The front side showcases a beautifully faded, heavily weathered composition of layered scrap fabrics, which dates from Edo period (pre 1868). The reverse reveals a patchwork arrangement of mismatched younger cloths from 20th century.

Although they used the early material dating from Early 1800s, the garment is believed to be sewn together in the early - mid 20th century. This rare heirloom piece effortlessly bridges the gap between ancient Japanese folk art and modern abstract minimalism. 

Materials & Natural Dyes

100% Handwoven, homespun, and hand-stitched antique cotton fabrics. Through decades of careful handling, natural aging, and repeated washings, the textile has evolved a magnificent, complex patina. It features a spectacular spectrum of faded botanical indigos, earthy madder-browns and subtle, muted earth tones.

Condition & Antique Character
As an authentic antique artifact, this piece carries the beautiful imprints of its previous life. It possesses a pure wabi-sabi aesthetic, with honest signs of age, utility, and historic repair.

What to Expect: Beautiful areas of natural fading, uneven colour saturation, organic edge fraying, thinning zones, small historical marks, and multi-layered fabric windows. These elements are not flaws, but rather the highly coveted characteristics that verify its absolute antiquity.

The garment has been rinsed through cold water, but it has not been given a deep wash since we acquired it from the previous owner.
