A traditional oiko or seoi-kago (backpack basket) used in rural mountain villages for agricultural harvesting, foraging, or transporting wood. Dating to the Taisho to early Showa era (circa 1920s–1950s), this deeply functional piece reflects the utilitarian beauty of early regional folk craft (Mingei), retaining its original rustic textile shoulder straps.

Materials
Handcrafted from broad, split-bamboo strips using a precise rectangular plaiting technique, supported by vertical wood/thick bamboo stabilizing ribs along the front face. The flat rear panel is constructed to rest comfortably against the body. It features original, hand-twisted hemp ropes attached to iron mounting rings, paired with thick shoulder cushioning hand-braided from repurposed pink and teal vintage workwear cotton rags (sakiori style). The rim is bound by an expansive, split-bamboo band secured tightly with twisted wire loops, while the interior bottom panels show a deeply aged, natural wood-grain floor.
